Современный соревновательный спорт, в котором участвуют человек и собака и который с успехом использует и оттачивает физические и умственные способности как двуногих, так и четвероногих спортсменов, аджилити зародился в Великобритании в 1977 году и начал завоевывать популярность в США в конце 80-х. В соревнованиях по аджилити, проводник направляет собаку через полосу препятствий, которые необходимо преодолеть за возможно более короткое время. Правила аджилити напоминают правила, по которым проводятся верховые скачки с препятствиями. Среди препятствий, используемых в аджилити, можно назвать следующие: А-образная рама, стол, трубчатый туннель, подвешенная автомобильная покрышка, качающаяся доска, бревно и др.
